Slips / Deuce Films

Deuce Films came to us when they were commissioned by MTV to revamp a “Pimp my Ride” style programme for the UK market. The result is “Slips” which now broadcasts on Viva.
Electra have been involved from the start with helping to set up the workflow. Through discussions and meetings, we provided four P2 Varicams along with many smaller cameras for the pilot and series. We introduced Deuce to the use of new ingesting methods i.e. the Panasonic Rapid Writer. Electra is the only UK rental company to own two of these units, and it has proved to be a great choice for Deuce. DOP

Big Babies / BBC New Comedy

Combining live action, puppetry and CGI, Big Babies is a new 26 x 15-minute comedy series about two babies with the heads of grown men, which will air next year. Big Babies is the creation of the comedy collective, Broken Biscuits.
Jon Riche directs and Catherine Gosling Fuller produces the series, the executive producers are Jack Cheshire for BBC Comedy and Japhet Asher for CBBC.
DOP Jeremy Hewson, and his camera team of Ian Chisholm and Nathan Waters began shooting with the Panasonic AJ-HPX-3700 Varicam P2 HD camcorder, with a second unit coming out regularly. To help keep the workflow and ingesting process moving smoothly, the Panasonic AJ-HRW10G Rapid Writer was kept on location, so the ingesting of cards could be done throughout the day.
The Rapid Writer can automatically transfer data from up to five P2 cards and copy material simultaneously to two separate hard drives.

 

Eddie Izzard Runs GB / Tiger Aspect Productions

COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard ran an amazing 43 marathons in 51 days raising money for the Sports Relief charity. This amazing feat was shot and directed by Rob Farquhar with sound recordists Stuart Piggott and David Ferguson.
Tiger Aspect decided to go the tapeless route for the film and through camera tests it was decided to shoot on two Sony PMW-EX3 SxS camcorders. Rob would ingest his rushes in the evening onto his laptop.  DOP
Jeremy Hewson was called in for specialized filming days.


Invisible World
/ BBC Natural History

The BBC asked Electra to provide a P2 Varicam and equipment for their new three part science series "Invisible Worlds" which will be on air in spring 2010.

 

Comedy

Hounded / BBC New Comedy / CBBC

Six to twelve year-olds will be delighted with the eccentric new comedy drama, Hounded, starring comedian Rufus Hound as he journeys into a fantastic parallel universe of special effects.
The series was directed by Syd Macartney and Pete Rowe, and produced by John Pocock.
Pete Rowe was also DOP on Syd’s blocks, with Ali Upcraft on second camera and Ian Pearce, Tom Vincent and Ben Banayo as focus puller, assistant and trainee respectively.

 

Brian Pern – Online Comedy / ITV Comedy for BBC Comedy

Directed and produced by Saurabh Kakkar, Simon Day’s character Brian Pern is joined by guest stars Paul Whitehouse, Lucy Montgomery, Tony Way and acting legend Michael Kitchen, playing Brian's manager. The new Brian 'webisodes' are for BBC Comedy Online.

Jon Wood lit this production. Ian Pearce pulled focus, Electra's Ollie Wright was the trainee, sound recordist was Electra regular David Ferguson.

 

Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop / BBC Entertainment

Comedy actress Miranda Hart stars in her own sitcom based in a joke shop, where she is the owner. Her colleague Stevie, mans the till for hours at a time whilst Miranda 'pops out' on regular, self-imposed challenges.
This charming production was directed by Juliet May and produced by Nerys Evans. DOP
Pete Rowe, focus puller Ali Upcraft and camera assistant Ian Pearce made up the camera department. 

 

 

Morwenna Banks – Online Comedy / BBC Comedy

Looser Women / Objective Productions

Electra has just completed filming for an all-female sketch show for Channel 4 as part of its forthcoming pilots season, Comedy Showcase. The show will be written and performed by stand-up and Skins writer Josie Long. Also starring Sara Pascoe, Kathryn Dysdale, Kerry Howard, Lu Corfield and Nat Luurtsema.
This is the only sketch format in this year's Showcase.
Directed by Ben Palmer, produced by Sam Martin with Lee Hupfield as Executive Producer.
DOP
Pete Rowe, focus puller Ian Pearce, camera assistant Dan West and trainee Ben Banayo made up the camera team. Martin Wilson mixed and recorded the sound.

 

Entertainment

Top Gear (series 14)/ BBC Entertainment

Series 14 is completed, with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
The main cameramen over the years have been Ben Joiner, Casper Leaver, Iain May and Toby Wilkinson.
This series features trips to Romania driving on the infamous Transfagarasan road, all 3 presenters taking over an art galllery and building a bespoke electric car amongst other things.
The main feature this series being a 75 minute special trip to Bolivia and Chile. Starting in the Amazon basin, through the rain forest and on to high altitude past 'The Road of Death'. Each of the presenters were given a budget of £3500.00 to buy their 4x4 cars locally.

 

Victoria Wood: Seen On TV / BBC Entertainment

Electra Film and Television provided kit and crew for a forthcoming BBC production on one of Britain's most loved talents, Victoria Wood.
This 90’ special, comprising of talking head interviews, actuality and archive footage was produced and directed by Lucy Kenwright.
Cameraman,
Jon Wood and sound recordist, Stu Piggott were Lucy’s regular team, with Steve Albins, Roy Estabrook, Pete Rowe, David Ferguson and Annie Needham picking up 2nd unit days.

This new BBC2 programme showcases five of Britain's best modern artists as they compete against each other to win the prize of having their work exhibited in Charles Saatchis’ gallery.
